Refreshed

For the first time since well before Ethan was born I stayed in bed all night long last night and got quite a good nights sleep. I woke up feeling so refreshed this morning, it's amazing what a good nights sleep will do. More importantly Ethan slept all through the night! He went to bed at about 9 last night and slept all the way through until 6:30am this morning. I could hardly believe it.  I heard him grunting and making noises randomly through the night so I knew he was alright, just really sleepy. It was a surprising change from the night before we were up 3 or 4 times for feedings (I don't quite remember). Even if this was just random it's quite a milestone. Andy was thinking that maybe his tiredness is starting to over rule his hunger. I'm guessing sleeping through the night won't stick, but it sure was nice!

To top it all off yesterday and today Ethan has had great days. He's been really alert and awake quite a bit of the day and really happy. He's been smiling extra and having a lot of fun playing and getting to stand up different places outside etc and check everything out. He was sharing some great smiles with all the ladies while we were out today and actually enjoyed getting to be out of the house. He's been really easy going and happy; quite the content little guy. It's been really lovely!

2 months old!

Ethan is 2 months old! It's hard to believe that is was just two months ago that we were at the hospital getting to hold Ethan in our arms, where has the time gone. It has been a great two months with our little guy and we're loving getting to be Ethan's parents.

He's growing up quite a bit. We have a pretty good routine going and he's sleeping pretty well at night. He gets up twice in the night to eat, usually once around 12:30 or 1 and then again around 4:30 or so, he goes back to sleep very quickly and easily once he's done nursing usually. He's started to be able to sooth himself back to sleep as well, he'll make some noises for a few minutes then fall back asleep. Sometimes when he wakes up he'll just lay there happy making little noises and looking at shapes on the walls or at the ceiling fan. He loves to stand up and look around, it's one of his new favorite things to do. His legs are really strong and can support his weight, sometimes he'll grunt a bit and stretch his neck and look up when he wants to stand up or be lifted and look at what's up there. When we hold him sitting up he holds his head up on his own and can turn and look around. He responds to us talking to him and playing with him quite a bit more now and will give us plenty of smiles and coos to let us know he's happy.

I love getting to be home with Ethan and see so much of his personality

Ethan loves baths, he's all smiles while he's in the water and even gets excited as I get him ready for his bath. Baths are still in the kitchen sink right now but I think we might have to move to the tub soon.

All bundled up and resting in his swing before we take Buster to the dog park

I love all of Ethan's adorable smiles! He is extra smiley in the morning and loves it when we blow on his belly or make silly noises and play with him.

I love that his little feet still fit in my hand

Ethan's doggie Buster is always there to look after him and protect him no matter where we're hanging out.

Ethan loves cuddles with mom and dad.

Shots

Ethan got his first set of shots this morning. I've been dreading taking hum for his shots, I knew it'd be a hard appointment. It was really great to have Andy there with us for it, Ethan liked getting to have his daddy there to hold him and I really appreciated the support. Ethan definitely didn't like the shots, I wouldn't like 5 shots in my leg either, but he got through it great. Two nurses came in to give him his shots so it went quickly which was nice. We heard his first pain cry today; it broke my heart, the look on his face when he got his first shot was so sad, his eyes got really big and then he let out an awful cry. He's doing good now though, he's extra sleepy and needs lots of comforting, but we cam easily provide both. We came home and got a few good feedings in and have been doing loads of good cuddling. He's asleep in my arms now getting some rest.

Ethan is doing great with his growth and developmentally. He weighs 9 lbs 3.5 oz - 5th percentile, 22" long - 17th percentile, and his head is at 15" - 13th percentile. He's always been a lean little guy, even before he was born. He has put on a little over 2 lbs in the last month and a half,  he's chunking up some and growing quite a lot, he's even out grown all of his newborn cloths and some others. He is our lean little guy and we love him!

3 years

Andy and I have been married three years now. It's hard to believe that it was three years ago we went down to the court house and got married. It doesn't seem like it's been that long but then in another sense it feels like it's been longer. So much has happened in the last three years; it's really been an incredible journey and I'm thankful that we get to share the journey. The last three years have been the best years of my life; I can't imagine life without my best friend and soul mate by my side. I am looking forward to many more great years ahead of us.

This photo is outside of the court house in Littleton right after we got married. 4/13/2007

The Big Roll

Ethan has always liked to lay on his side, even in the hospital when we'd lay him on his back to sleep he'd roll to his side. In the last few weeks while we've been doing tummy time he has started to roll to his side because he doesn't like being on his tummy much. He'd roll either left of right from his tummy which we were really impressed with, he's such a smart 1 1/2 month old. He also will push with his legs while he's on his tummy, he pushes so hard with his legs that he'll scoot across the mat. First his bum goes up in the air and then he'll start to scoot with his head still planted to the mat. Once he learns how to use those arms of his he'll be moving all over the place.

Over the weekend he decided he didn't like being on his tummy so much that he'd go ahead and roll all the way over to his back! Yup Ethan has learned how to roll from his tummy to his back already! We're so proud of him, even if he does only do it because he doesn't like being on his tummy. Andy set him down on his tummy in his crib friday morning after a diaper change and left to go wash his hands, when he went back in the room Ethan was on his back and as happy as could be. He called me with all sorts of excitement and we tried it again, this time I grabbed the camera. Yup he did it again, Ethan grunted a bit and then managed to push himself to roll over to his back. It's kinda of a three stage roll. I'll post the video we took when I figure out how to. Our little guy has skipped lifting his head from his tummy and went straight to rolling over. We're so proud him!

Late Happy Easter

We had a great Easter this year with Ethan. We had a relaxing weekend and enjoyed lovely walks to the park in the warm spring weather and time with family. Ethan loved all the warm weather and was even very good and patient while we did a little bible study for the first time with him.

He loved his Easter basket and fit perfectly inside. He actually had a lot of fun sitting inside, he was smiling, cooing and making all sorts of great silly little faces. I'm guessing by next year he won't fit quite so well, but this year he's our little spring chick.

New Tastes

Ethan makes all sorts of great facial expressions, he's gotten to try two new flavors and the faces he makes are priceless.

He tried gas drops and loves them! They must be sweet, when we give them to him no matter how upset he is at the time he instantly stops fussing, opens his eyes real big , puckers his lips out and smacks them together for a bit. Instantly happy! It's the most adorable thing in the world, we kept saying we need to record it it's just that good. It's always during feeding time so we hadn't recorded it yet, last week when we gave him the drops he still got all wide eyed and happy but didn't smack his lips. I guess it's not a new taste any more.

The other new taste for Ethan has been some vitamin D drops that his pediatrician recommended we give him. These aren't nearly as nice as the gas drops but still intriguing. He wrinkles up his face a bit and you can tell he's thinking about it and smacks his lips a bit to taste it some more and then makes this face like 'what is that stuff, I don't want it'. He doesn't much like the vitamin D drops but takes them alright.
