21 & 22 Month Update

Ethan is growing fast, he is such a little boy!

The biggest news the last few months for Ethan is that he is sleeping in his own toddler bed. He learned how to climb out of his crib and so we transitioned to the toddler bed. He was very proud of and super excited about his new bed that he could freely climb in and out of whenever he wanted. The climbing in and out made going to sleep kind of difficult but Ethan is now successfully sleeping in his own big boy bed! He's really good about bedtime now and climbs in by himself when we're done reading stories etc. I've been sitting in with him until he falls asleep and it's been working out well, he likes that I'm in there with him while he falls asleep and it's a nice quiet time for me as well. I have to admit that I love that he just wants me to be there because I know one day he won't. He's really good about staying in his bed once he falls asleep and only wondering out in the morning or once nap time is over. I do think it's adorable to see sleepy eyed Ethan wonder out of his room with stuffed animal in arm. One of his first nap times doing this though he woke up in the middle of his nap and realized I was gone, he came out with his blanket and  pulled me to his room and got right back in bed. I guess we weren't done napping yet.

Some other things going on lately with Mr.E
  • says 'hmmm' when he's trying to figure something out and as he's walking around the house looking for something. It's adorable and we love it! He put a finger to his chin with pursed lips as he says it as well.
  • Stripes the tiger is a favorite stuffed animal ( thanks uncle Mike) and gets to sleep with Ethan at night and for a while was a must have during any story time. Ethan would give stripes kisses and hugs and also have Stripes give us kisses.
  • Has a new love for Mr.Glow Bug which is his nightlight that he got when he started sleeping in his toddler bed. Ethan gets all excited about it when we ask if we should go say goodnight to Mr.Glow Bug. He gives it a huge hug and has a huge smile on his face, it's obvious we can never loose Mr.Glow Bug
  • Holds our hands while we say prayer at dinner and kisses out hand after.
  • Talks through bedtime prayer or tries to give me a huge wet kiss and a tight hug around my neck.
  •  says 'uh oh' - when I hear him say this from the other room I know it means he has gotten into something he shouldn't be in.
  • loves going to the zoo and watching all of the animals walk around and will ask for more when they go into their caves
  • know what monkey's and fish say. His fish noise is smacking his lips together.
  • can unzip and take off his jacket by himself
  • has peed in the potty on his own and is really interested in it all. He goes and sits on his little potty after he goes in his diaper and then wipes himself with toilet paper. It's a start!
  • say's 'dat' pointing at something he wants then says 'dare' pointing at where it should go.
    • for example he'll point at a treat and then point to his mouth
  • plays pretend and really gets into the games he's playing. It's fun to watch him be in his own little world having so much fun.
  • Loves to help dada fix things around the house with tools. If there's something broken he's very quick to point it out and grab a tool to fix it. Often times that tool is a whisk from the kitchen drawer.
  • He likes to help me cook and will get out a pot and bowl, whisk and his play food and cook on the floor while I make dinner.
  • He understand things have a place, there are rules and and order to doing things. He likes it most of the time (unless of course it means he can't do something he wants.)
    • He yells at Grandpa's cat for being on the table without prompting
    • When he's getting tired and ready to leave somewhere he'll bring me our shoes and my diaper bag to let me know he's ready to go.
    • He knows before we leave we have to clean up. He started to try to put the highchairs away at monkey biz when we were getting ready to go.
  • Ethan is testing the limits of what he can do which makes things interesting, but he will sit in time out when he's told to and will even put himself in timeout when he something he's not supposed to. All we have to say is 'put yourself in timeout' and he'll go sit down and wait for us to tell him he can get out.
  • dances to music around the house and moves his legs and feet really fast.
  • sings along to songs with us and really like Christmas Carols especially the fa la la la la part in Deck the Halls
  • tries to hide food in his cheeks when he opens his mouth to show us he's eaten what he has so that he can have more
  • waves to everyone and says by as we leave anywhere
  • loves to help and have a job to do. He's really good about helping with things we ask him to do and he is proud of himself for doing a good job
  • does fist bumps and pats on the back
  • loves to color and will spend ages doing it. He especially loves it now that he has his own Ethan sized table to sit at.
  • Ethan has come into our room in the middle of the night a few times this week wile he's been sick and climbs into our bed to cuddle. He falls right back asleep and just wants to be cuddled and I have loved the cuddles! Our bed isn't big enough for all of us on a regular basis though.
  • Still loves to climb anything and is getting more and more fearless playing with bigger kids and climbing taller things.
Ethan is totally a little boy and we are loving adjusting to being the parents to a little boy instead of a baby. Ethan is so adventurous yet still very loving with us giving loads of hugs and kisses. We've been very blessed with Ethan, he is so easy going and such a happy kid even when he's not feeling well, it's cold out or he's tired. He's an awesome little guy and we love him tons! He'll never really understand what an amazing blessing he is in our lives and how thankful we are to get to be his parents.

Halloween

This year we made Halloween a weekend long event. Ethan was a doggie and we loved it; mostly because of how much he loved being a doggie! He got all excited at the mention of doggie costume and would beg to put it on.  He even respond when we said 'where's our doggie' and did a little growl.

Friday night we went to the Chatfield Corn Maze, it was pretty muddy but a lot of fun! Ethan found his way through the kids corn maze and we attempted part of the regular one. Ethan loved running in the mud and finding corn in the field for us. He is such an outdoors kid he loved exploring a brand new type of place.

showing us which way to go
corn is so much fun to find

Saturday afternoon we went to the Trick-or-Treat Street at the Childrens Museum, he loved getting to trick-or treat, and most of of watch all of the trains they had to ride. He was too cute trick-or-treating and he waved to all the girls handing out candy as we walked away.

Watching the mini train and getting ready to ride the big train

On Monday for Halloween Ethan and I joined up with our group Mountain Mommas and did trek-or-treat. It was a fun little 1/2mile hike at Lookout Mountain and the weather couldn't have been better for it. Ethan decided that it would be fun to collect rocks and pine cones along the trail in his pumpkin bucket in addition to the actual treats. That's my nature boy. We met some friends along the path and had a fun time hiking in costumes together. On our way home we visited dad at work and picked him up for a picnic lunch.

Ethan got very excited about the snow plow in the parking lot as we were leaving.

19 & 20 Months

I know my post have become less frequent, this is not because of a lack of things going on with our family to share but because there is so much going on. Ethan is a busy guy and we are busy exploring and learning new things! Here are some of the things we've been up to.

19 & 20 Months
  • Lots of new words- we can tell he is really trying to say the words that he has understood for so long
    • some of the most recents - dino, bug, ov (glove), tigger (tiger)
    • said 'love you' to Buster -I've been trying to teach him 'love you' and of course he says it to the dog
    • growls like a lion and tiger
  • dare (there) as he points to what hurts and needs a kiss
  • will give us kisses if we say something hurts. He first confirms 'dare' and then gives us multiple kisses making his lips smack for each kiss. -one of my absolute favorite things right now!
  • bub-bull (bubble)-Ethan loves reading 'The Going to Bed Book' with dad on his ipad and knows how all the interactive parts work. Ethan loves the page where they take a bath because bubbles float around and he gets to pop them. He knows when the page is coming up and gets all excited saying bub-bull
  • Combines signs when asking for 'more please' and 'eat please' and said milk the other night when we didn't notice him signing it.
  • Walks around pretending to talk on our phones
  • Stops to smell flowers and blow on things that he thinks might be hot.
  • For the last several months Ethan has hated blankets, I mean real dislikes them, he has a fit anytime we try to put one on him(and he is awake). That is up until yesterday when watching football with daddy he voluntarily pulled some blankets over him and cuddled in them for a few minutes.
  • Knows where most all of his body parts are and will show us where to put his cloths, sock and shoes on feet etc.
  • The other night Ethan was wearing his new Batman pj's (thanks aunt Becca) and dad asked him where his batmobile was. Ethan smiled real big, pointed to his boy parts and proudly said 'dare'. I don't know where he got that from but because we laughed so hard he now thinks that's what it's called.
  • He will do anything for a laugh and loves being silly, he is such a big goofball and we love it! It sure makes like fun.
  • Wears our shoes around the house
  • Ethan is super coordinated and a great climber, he can climb up just about anything, and does
  • Has started to pretend he is a scary monster; he come up by us and growls and then laughs so hard when we act surprised or if we growl back at him.
  • Ethan  is infatuated with trucks of all sorts! He gets so excited we see any type of heavy equipment or trucks while we are out. He loves watching them work and just looking at them, he has left the playground because he saw and ambulance in the parking lot to go look at. Ethan has gotten to climb up inside a few because he was so patiently admiring them and waving to them when we're out.
  • Also loves trains (dad is very proud of this) Ethan is fascinated with watching trains and quite likes to ride them as well.
  • Has 5 new teeth for a total of 12 now
  • We had our first big snow of the year and Ethan loved playing in it! Once we figured out how to keep his 'ov' on it was even better! We spent most of our playtime outside running around.
  • Is such an outdoors kid! He loves being outside and is just like his dad, always ready to get out of the house and do something.
  • Ethan got to feed cows hay at the Littleton Historical Working Farm and had a blast, he wasn't scared in the slightest of the big cows. Also petted the horses while we were there as well.
  • Cleans up his toys when asked and sorts them as he puts them away in their place.
  • Brings us a diaper or wet wipes when he has needs a new one
  • Is loving discovering how things work! Like that he can turn the water on and off in the sink if he climbs up so he can reach it. He laughs so hard and loves learning how to do something new.
  • Learns a ton from watching what we do and I can tell he pays close attention to what we do throughout the day. Without prompting he will try to help with chores around the house and surprisingly knows how to do a lot of things or the general idea just from watching us.
Ethan is definitively a toddler and has his opinions about things but he is such a loving, happy and fun little guy. It is amazing how much he knows and it surprises us every day what he picks up on. Ethan is one smart little guy! I love getting to spend my days with him watching him grow and learn new things and he is definitely teaching me loads along the way.

18month Photos at Wash Park

We had fun running around the flowers, watching big trucks go by and getting into some of the dirt.

Reading and a Rocking Chair

Ethan recently got a cool new rocking chair from one of Andy's co-workers and he loves it! It's just his size and perfect for climbing on and reading in. He's so silly, who knew a chair could be so much fun!
